History

The history of our company can be traced back to Leopold Cassella, who founded in 1838 Leopold Cassella & Comp. a company whose major business was trading with colours. Further roots lie in the US-based Monsanto Company.


Milestones:

1935         Discovery of Melamine resins at the Cassella site in Frankfurt am Main, Germany

1940ies    First production of Melamine resins the Cassella site and at the Monsanto site in

                 Springfield, MA, USA

1970         Hoechst becomes the major shareholder of Cassella AG (75% Hoechst, 25% widely held

                 stock)

1995         Change of ownership from Cassella AG to Hoechst AG, Site Cassella. Later this year

                 Hoechst spins off its resins business into a new company with the name Vianova Resins

1997         Monsanto spins off its chemicals business, calling this new company Solutia Inc., and the

                 Melamine resins product line is part of this spin-off business

1999         Solutia acquires Vianova Resins and both resins businesses were combined

2003         UCB / Surface Specialties buys from Solutia this combined resins business

2005         Acquisition of the Melamine resins business by INEOS and formation of INEOS Melamines
